CERRITOS – When the city was
established 50 years ago, the cow population outnumbered the human
by a 29-to-1 margin.
This weekend, Cerritos residents will hold a festival in
celebration of the city, which is now home to more than 50,000
people, a performing-arts center and the city's winning float in
the Tournament of Roses Parade. The golden-anniversary event
includes a parade, entertainment, fireworks, rides, food and
games.
Events run from noon to 11 p.m. today and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday
at the Cerritos Sports Complex, 1990 Bloomfield Ave.
Abraiha's Belly Dance Class, the Marine Corps Band and country
singer Casey Simpson take the stage today. Mickey Mouse and
longtime Cerritos resident Myrtle Franz are among the grand
marshals of the parade at 11 a.m. today, starting at Bloomfield
Avenue and 183rd Street and south to the Cerritos Sports Complex.
Fireworks light the sky at 8:30 p.m.
Big Sand and His Fly-Rite Boys will rock their show Sunday
evening.
Throughout the weekend, Jazzercise Class, Da' Hawaii Seniors Club,
A Luv 4 Chocolate and others will host booths.
